Your smile at midlife.
Many of my patients are at the age when the effects of their dental habits — good and bad — start to show. Gum disease, for example, affects 75 percent of adults over 35. Many others in this age group have old silver or mercury fillings that should be replaced. And teeth also get darker with age, though certain lifestyle choices (such as smoking) can definitely contribute.
For these patients, I have created the third in my series of “age group” videos. “Your 40- to 60-Year-Old Smile” talks about the issues most common in midlife.
As we get older, regular dental visits are even more important. X-rays and screenings can often reveal early signs of serious health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Osteoporosis (or bone loss) often first shows up in the jaw, which can be screened for as well.
And this is the time in life when people start thinking about a smile makeover. Cosmetic dentistry can take years off a person’s appearance, and this video explains some of our most popular procedures. Veneers, for example, can transform a smile in just a few visits. With ZOOM!® whitening or CEREC® crowns, results can be achieved in the same day.
Though this video touches on many cosmetic procedures, we will be covering them in more detail with a series of procedure-specific titles that we will release in the upcoming months. But “Your 40- to 60-Year-Old Smile” will definitely give you a preview of what you can expect, as well as what you can do to make sure your smile stays as healthy as it looks.
